iNi Cooperative is on the cutting edge of making snowboard apparel and surf/ skate/snow lifestyle clothing. The company started in 2011 and was one of the first snowboarding brands to set out manufacturing products made from at least 40% to 75% recycled and/or renewable materials.
The company has grown a lot over the last four years expanding its lines to include summer wear and hats. Their clothes are top of the line in function keeping you warm and dry in the mountains and cool and comfortable in the summer. Blending style, recreational functionality and environmental sustainability lies at the heart of their mission as a company.
For 2015, the new styles have a simple, old school flair that looks great on anyone. They are incredibly comfortable and offer plenty of room for extra layers underneath. Here are some of the highlights.
The Quib Shirt
The Quib shirt is one of my favorite iNi pieces this year. It is not a shirt but a quilted riding jacket with 60 gram recycled polyester insulation and all the seams are taped for waterproofness. The taffeta inner lining is silky smooth allowing the jacket to slip on and easily and lets you move around inside without feeling restricted at all. The hood is removable and the front has big snappy buttons. It’s also treated with eco-friendly DWR for more waterproofness and is rated 10K/10K waterproof/breathable.
The Bench Warmer Jacket
The Bench Warmer is an insulated varsity style snowboard jacket. It has a 10K/10K waterproof/breathable rating, 20 gram insulations, taped seams, DWR coating, powder skirt, thumb loops and goggle pocket. The front flaps open and close to seal off the main zipper and there’s a media pocket on the inside so you don’t have to unzip to get to your phone or whatever else you have in their. It also comes in a camo version, camo pattern on the sleeves, that looks really fresh.
The Sherpa Fleece
The Sherpa is a really warm, thickly fleeced hoodie that’s made from 60% organic cotton and 40% recycled polyester, also known as PET. The inner fleece looks wooly (that’s the Sherpa style) and feels very soft to the touch. Even the visor on the hood is made out of fleece and it looks really cool. The Sherpa, like the Bench Warmer, has a front wind chest and zipper pockets and shawl cuffs for easily getting your gloves on and off.
The Block Pullover
The Block Pullover is a super comfortable fleece hoodie. It’s made out 60% organic cotton and 40% PET recycled polyester. The front pockets zip up and there’s an iPod compartment inside the left one. This piece, like the Sherpa fleece, has shawl cuffs as well as a ribbed waistband for a snug fit to keep out snow and wind.
The Utility Pant
The Utility Pant is a tough, durable snow pant with a 3 layer 10K/10K waterproof, breathable construction, taped seams and a DWR waterproof finish. It’s made out 59% recycled PET and 41% recycled polyester stretch material. So even though Utility is rugged, it also stretches nicely as you move. Other features that make the Utility an awesome snow pant include cargo shell pockets, stretch boot gaiters with lace hooks, reinforced knee patches and an inner waistband cinch for dialing in the perfect fit.
iNi, is the symbol for unity and oneness, and the company is aiming to bring their manufacturing processes more inline with the welfare and conservation of the natural resources and environment that they rely on to make their product. They have been able to make a high quality product that has all the latest performance and functionality that you would expect of great outerwear. And they are doing it the right way.
